Meeting and Speaker
Details Luke Hutchison -- Anatomy of an Android App -- how to get started programming for Android, how to find your way around an Android project in Eclipse (what each file in a project is for), live debugging in Eclipse -- Multi-touch on Android -- multi-touch capabilities of current Android devices, limitations, "the multi-touch conspiracy" -- OLED screen technology on the Nexus One -- General Android Q&A Luke's background: -- current PhD student in Computer Science at MIT CSAIL, former Google intern -- Android hacker, got multi-touch scaling working in the browser on the G1 -- have developed about five sizeable Android apps Greg Milette I'll cover UI layouts, Database, using the files and R.* stuff, the speech recognition and text to speech API, and other things that I can think of. Some areas of the Android APIs are amazingly easy and will make you smile, some areas are depressingly quirky and will steal away whole afternoons of time. During my talk, you will learn how to use some these APIs so that you can more quickly create your first app. Along the way, I'll tell a sad, yet hopeful programming story. Greg's background: Greg Milette has been a software engineer in the defense industry for 7 years. One day, he acquired a G1 Android phone. One hour later, he created "hello world." 3 months later, he entered an app into the Google's Developer Challenge and placed 19th in the Lifestyle app category. Registration |
